My Story

Born in Shanghai, tea has always been a big part of my life. In China, tea is an essential part of social gatherings, commonly gifted, and well appreciated. When you go to someone's home, they will always offer tea, usually with a yummy snack.

After I moved to Los Angeles as a little girl, all of that shifted. Hot tea was not a part of daily life. Everyone was drinking coffee or something iced. I started drinking iced tea all the time, but it was almost always bitter, with low-quality leaves processed into powder, masked with too much sugar and not many – if any, delightful flavors.

During the pandemic, I craved tea that was both delicious and made with ingredients that I could feel good about. I remember standing in the Whole Foods tea aisle and searching for a blend that I dreamed of – a Green tea with rose and orange – I couldn't find it. The ones I did find that I liked had a lot of weird, confusing ingredients and additives I couldn’t pronounce or understand on the back. That's when I decided that there had to be a better way, and Dream Tea NYC was born.

Why Dream Tea NYC?

Tea should feel personal.

In China, there’s a deep sense of regional pride surrounding tea. When you visit a close friend or family member, they may serve a tea worth hundreds of dollars per ounce – not to impress you, but as a gesture of care and generosity. Tea is a way of honoring the people around you. When I looked at tea culture in the United States, I felt that sense of intention and connection to ingredients was missing.

I created Dream Tea NYC to bring a more personal and elevated tea experience to modern tea drinking. Every blend is designed to be customized to your taste and packaged in beautiful tins meant to be displayed, gifted, and shared with friends.

Made with organic whole-leaf tea and thoughtfully sourced ingredients, each blend is crafted to support joyful daily rituals and moments of wellness you can genuinely feel good about. I also want to allow you to add your own personal touch to a tea by giving you the option to create your own blend, selecting ingredients that resonate with you to help you express yourself. Dream Tea NYC is tea designed to spark joy – personal, beautiful, and made to be shared.

Discovering Our Matcha

Drinking quality matcha is an experience that brings joy. Ever since my first trip to Tokyo, I’ve loved the rich, nutty, earthy flavor of vibrant green matcha and the sense of ritual that comes with preparing it.

When we first started hosting in-person events for Dream Tea NYC, customers constantly asked when we were going to release a matcha of our own. At first, it was just a few requests here and there, but over time, the demand became impossible to ignore.

We knew we couldn’t source just any matcha. At Dream Tea NYC, flavor and quality always come first. We sampled dozens of matchas from traditional growers across Japan before finally choosing our bold, chocolatey Kagoshima matcha.

 In Japan, Kagoshima matcha has become a favorite among modern specialty matcha cafés for its naturally creamy texture, deep green color, and smooth, low-bitterness flavor profile – especially in lattes. From the very first sip, we were obsessed.

Traditionally processed, shade-grown, and stone-ground, our Ceremonial Grade AA 100% Japanese matcha is crafted for the perfect daily ritual. And honestly? You just have to try it. We’ve had customers tell us it completely changed the way they think about matcha.

Fast forward to today: every Dream Tea NYC blend is crafted fresh in small batches to ensure exceptional quality in every cup. We create seasonal collections, offer fully customizable tea blends tailored to your taste, and have partnered with brands including NYU, Capital One, and Kiehl’s, as well as luxury hotels across the country.

What began as a search for better, more personal tea has grown into a community built around joyful daily rituals, thoughtful gifting, and beautiful moments shared over a cup of tea. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m so grateful you’re a part of it.
